Over the weekend, a friend wanted to relate to me that they knew of someone who had recently visited this page. She said “Oh yeah, my friend went to your ‘Cheap & Easy’ page!” (?!**?!)
In case you thought I was writing about non-family items, ahemm, keep looking. Everything I write about here I could take my two daughters, ages 6 and 8, to.
Occasionally I will highlight an event that I *could* take them to, but probably wouldn’t. It just seems my social life revolves around them at this age.
Is there an aspect of family entertainment you would like to see mentioned? Write to me and let me know.
Let’s Assume Katrina Isn’t Going To Crash Our Party

Why is it that the hurricanes always hit on the weekends? Believe me, it IS a trend. It becomes noticeable when you work in the news industry and your usual weekends off turn into “pack your bags and expect to stay” sleep-ins at the office.
Of course, the alternative is being stuck in the house with kids with nothing to do and sometimes – ack! – no electricity or cable.
But that is NOT going to happen this weekend. Let’s use the power of positive thinking to steer Katrina away from us so that we can all get out and enjoy some great events like Kaleidoscope Family Festival (just $5 to park) at the fairgrounds. Or Zephyrhills Nite Cruise (free). Both take place on Saturday.
Something else that looks cool is the Jobsite Rocks! ($8) concert at the New World Brewery, also scheduled for Saturday.
Also, this weekend at Lowry Park Zoo they are temporarily reducing prices to $7 for children ages 3-11 and adults. Get an unlimited all day ride pass for only $6, too. That’s a bargain since the rides usually are about $3 per person for one go-round on a camel.
So, lots of cheap options are turning up for this weekend. Assuming we are still high and dry, that is.
Out And About With Art

The Outdoor Arts Foundation has several projects either underway or in the works to bring smiles to Bay area residents.
Their goal is place works of art and beauty out for everyone to enjoy.
One of their current projects places fiberglass manatees at various malls and other locations for the public to enjoy. Manatee Menagerie has placed approx. 50 of these works of art around town already. Visit their site for the dates and locations of these traveling exhibits.
